Dialogue Editing
Making performance continuous — the invisible work between the take and the mix.
Dialogue editing is the least visible craft in post and the one that most affects whether a scene holds together.
A scene shot over two days has two different rooms in it. A perfect take has a plane crossing at the end of it. The best reading of a line came from the take where a chair scraped. Dialogue editing resolves all of that before the mix begins, so the mixer can balance a scene instead of repairing it.
We handle noise continuity, room tone, take matching, perspective and cleanup across drama, documentary and interview work.
What’s included
Take matching
Performance assembled across takes without an audible seam.
Room tone and fills
Gaps filled so silence never changes texture mid-scene.
Noise continuity
Backgrounds matched across shooting days and locations.
Perspective
Level and tone matched to how far the camera is from the speaker.
Hear how a scene is built
Every film you have watched has these five layers under it. Switch them off and hear what disappears.
1 of 5 layers
Demonstration stems. The real thing is built per scene, to picture.
Dialogue Editing — common questions
Is this not just noise removal?
No. Noise removal is one tool used inside dialogue editing. The job is continuity — making a scene assembled from twelve takes across two days sound like one continuous moment.
Do I need dialogue editing if the location sound was good?
Usually yes, and less of it. Even clean production sound needs room tone, perspective and take matching before it can be mixed properly.
